404 Ink's 2022 list receives Creative Scotland funding

We’re excited to share that 404 Ink has received creative Scotland funding for our 2022 list! 404 will be receiving £35k towards not only four excellent titles in our core list, due to be announced very soon, but also towards formalising our new paid internship scheme, which we are trialling at present with a super intern, following our successful Inklings crowdfunder.

The funding will cover:

  • At Least This I Know - the debut poetry collection by Andrés N. Ordorica

  • Two exceptional novels and a brilliant memoir, which are announcing in due course, and we can’t wait for you to read

We’ll also be publishing a very cool short story collection in July 2022, and continuing our Inklings series into 2022, but these titles aren’t part of the funding, but fun to tease anyway as a mysterious purple box above nonetheless.

We’re also going to be formalising and expanding our paid internship scheme, taking on quarterly interns to offer tangible support in their publishing journey, and hosting more mentoring opportunities to support more aspiring publishers. This feeds into our free resource to demystify the publishing industry and create opportunity for future publishers, Book World 101. The funded project also facilitates a lot of freelance work for creators and creatives in the book world via the publications planned, and will give the two co-founders a bit more stability in the day-to-day running of the company by allowing us to make 404 Ink a genuine part-time role vs crammed into evenings and weekends.

Safe to say we’re absolutely chuffed. Being a small publisher in a pandemic has been tough, and surviving was goal number one, so to be back to commissioning, and to have security for 2022 to ensure these brilliant authors are done justice is something we don’t take for granted. We got the news just before 404 Ink’s 5th birthday, so we’re more hopeful than ever that it’s five down, many more to go!
