Ready for some exciting news? The title may have given it away, but we’re unbelievably excited to announce the first title from 404 Ink’s upcoming 2022 list: At Least This I Know, the debut poetry collection by Andrés N. Ordorica.

It publishes in January 2022, and is available to pre-order!

At Least This I Know is the stunning debut collection exploring ancestry, racism, nationhood, activism and queerness. In Andrés’ own words, these poems are a means of working through belonging both in a physical sense and emotional, be it the belonging of immigrant bodies in new countries, or the belonging of the queer self within found families and safe spaces. His debut confronts pain, while making space for joy and humour.

Andrés is a queer Latinx poet and writer based in Edinburgh, who creates worlds filled with characters who are from neither here nor there (ni de aquí, ni de allá), and whose publishing credits include The Skinny, Bella Caledonia, Confluence Medway, Somewhere: For Us, 404 Ink Magazine, and Gutter. In 2020, he was awarded a Second Life grant through the Edwin Morgan Trust. You can see more from Andrés at @AndresNOrdorica.

“I’m thrilled to be publishing my debut collection with 404 Ink who were one of the first Scottish publishers to feature my writing,” says Andrés. “I have long been a fan of many of their authors, a few who I count as dear friends, so this is a dream come true. At Least This I Know is a poetry collection about claiming space and working through my own sense of belonging as a queer immigrant of colour. I can’t wait to share these poems with readers and am honoured to be able to add my perspective to Scotland’s rich poetic landscape.”

We have been huge fans of Andrés and his work, having featured it in both We Were Always Here and in our literary magazine, and generally followed from afar (in a non-creepy way). We were so excited to read the manuscript of At Least This I Know and immediately knew we had to welcome him to the 404 Ink family. His debut is incredible and beautiful and thoughtful, and we really can’t wait to share it with you. You can pre-order below.
