Never, Ever Take Anybody's Advice on Anything... and other advice.
We are chuffed to announce our latest book for 2019: Never, Ever Take Anybody’s Advice on Anything. The book, edited by student Euan Lownie, brings together a range of advice from successful Scots answering one question to help those looking to the future and wondering, what next? Out November. You can pre-order it here.
Euan, 21, has been aware that as he gets through university, he has to decide his future career, but wasn’t sure what he wanted to do – he also knew that he wasn’t alone in this. He has spent the last few years asking people one simple question: What advice would you give to someone starting out in your field of work?
As one of the recipients of The Hunter Foundation’s 100 Disrupters grant, which sought to give young people with massive ambition the opportunity to make their ideas reality, Euan decided to turn this advice into a brilliant and motivational book for life. And that’s where we hopped in to help make it a reality!
From actor Alan Cumming and Lauren Mayberry of Chvrches, Wimbledon champ Andy Murray to Scotland’s Makar Jackie Kay, founders of organisations and businesses including Glasgow Women’s Library, Social Bite, The Hunter Foundation and BHP Comics, to scientists, nurses, designers, and more across various professions and trades, Never, Ever Take Anybody’s Advice on Anything: And Other Advice on Careers and Life from Successful Scots looks to offer help and motivation to those looking to their future with advice on specific careers, and more broadly life, by showcasing the talent Scotland has to offer. A perfect pep talk for students to those looking for daily motivation alike. (Advice is still being collected, full line-up tba.)
Euan has also chosen to donate some of the proceeds from his book to two charitable organisations to help more people. For each direct order on 404ink.com, we will be donating £1 to each chosen charity.
“I started this project on leaving school,” says Euan. “I thought that having a collection of career advice from successful Scots would be useful in helping people to pursue their dream careers (including me). I was overwhelmed at the response I got from the people I contacted and thought this could make an interesting and helpful book. I’m over the moon that the book is being published. It’s all a bit mad really!”
The amount of work Euan had undertaken for this project blew us away, and we’ve been chuffed jump in earlier this year to help him turn it into a book that can bring a little motivation and help into people’s lives. Can’t wait to share it with you all. So, go order your copy!
