Announcing: 404 'Inklings' series!

While we literally started our 2020 with a goodbye to the 404 literary magazine, our desire to publish new and exciting writing and writers hasn’t been dampened. And so, we’re excited to launch a call out for our new series: Inklings.

It’s an idea that’s been in our minds from our initial “How about we launch a publisher?” chats years ago - big ideas, smaller books. Tackling non-fiction in new and powerful ways, diving into a subject of interest that’s rarely given the page-time, something that provokes thought, challenges readers, or piques a newfound interest.

Is there something that’s close to your heart or experience that people should confront or pay more attention to? Is there something you’re a fan of that is ripe for a deep dive exploration? The brief for the series’ initial launch is wide open to allow for people’s own interpretations, but our advice is: if your gut says ‘this could be a wee book’, then you might be perfect for the Inklings series.

We’ve always wanted to find extra ways to offer paid writing opportunities for writers at all stages of their career, and so our goal is for this to be a continuous strand to 404’s publishing output. It is open to both published and unpublished writers. We’ve always been blown away with open call outs for non-fiction; we can’t wait to see your pitches.

Full information on pitching to 404 can be found on our submissions page, and on our Inklings information page.
